Green Minds
An informal, monthly group discussing psychology and sustainability.
October Readings | Past Readings
The
next Green Minds discussion will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on October 10, 2008 at Ecomotion: Earth
Friendly Vehicles in NE Portland (1625 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Portland, Oregon 97232).
What: Green Minds is a
public reading and discussion group focusing on the psychological aspects of
environmental issues and sustainability. We consider psychology broadly
in terms of our feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships, and also look
at ways to apply psychology to improve health, foster behavior change, and
address business or organizational challenges.
Format: Each meeting considers a central topic (such as
environmental identity, coping with environmental concerns, behavior change, or
the benefits of green spaces for health). Participants are helped to clarify
their understanding and encouraged to apply new insights to their lives and
endeavors. Each session begins and ends with informal discussion and
networking. Refreshments are available in the Hip Drip Community Café in the Ecomotion Building.
Who: The Green Minds group is open to all and draws a diverse
membership including individuals involved in health care and environmental
work, in various academic disciplines, in art and design; in community
organizing and activism; in business; and in government.
Leadership: The group is led by local psychologist Thomas Joseph Doherty, Psy.D of Sustainable Self, LLC. Psychology doctoral student Malek Hall from Pacific University is the Green Minds research
assistant and Angeline Parker from the Lewis & Clark Counseling Masters
program is the Green Minds 2008 intern.
When/Where: In 2008, Green Minds will meet from 4 pm – 6 p.m on the 3rd
Friday of each month (2/15, 3/21, 4/18, 5/16, 6/20, 7/18, No August Meeting, 9/19, 10/10, 11/21, and
12/19/08). We are trying out a new and bigger
location in the public meeting room of Ecomotion:
Earth Friendly Vehicles in NE Portland (1625 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Portland, Oregon 97232).
Contact: Please direct questions
about the group to Thomas Joseph Doherty at 503-288-1213 or thomas@selfsustain.com.
