The OLSF Education Committee develops projects to educate
lawyers on issues pertinent to a sustainable future. A two-fold strategy is employed.
- Educational seminars. OLSF develops and presents educational seminars each year. The 06-07 seminar is entitled “Dimensions of Sustainability – Emerging Context for the Practice of Law.” It covers the definition of sustainability, metaphors in common use, ecological principles, the dynamics of ecological degradation, the role of the global economy, strategies to reform the structure of the global economy to reduce ecological degradation, and the strategy of localization. The seminar was accredited with 1.0 hours of general CLE credit by the OSB.
-
Earth Leadership Seminar. OLSF conducts intensive training seminars for small groups of lawyers. Topics include (1) primary contexts of consumer culture, economic globalization, and advanced ecological degradation, (2) societal response to ecological degradation, (3) individual response and related impediments, and (4) opportunities to participate in creating a sustainable future.
