This six-session class explores the use of the Ecological Footprint, and internationally respected tool for measuring resource consumption and waste assimilation requirements of an individual or given population.
Class participants will use the Ecological Footprint tool to measure their personal impact on the earth and learn which steps bring about the greatest reductions. Specific topics covered include transportation, food, home energy, consumer goods, toxic chemicals, and water.
A local expert will present each topic. The overall facilitator will be Jeanne Roy, founder of Recycling Advocates, the Portland Master Recycler program, and the Home Eco-Party program. She wrote a weekly newspaper column for five years, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," and she is the author of "Eco-Tips" (Northwest Earth Institute Web site) and Ten Stresses on the Planet.
The class will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesdays, October 15, October 22, October 29, November 5, November 12, November 19. For more information about the topics covered and how to register, please see the full program description.
