Agent of Change in Your Circle of Influence Workshop
Each
of us has numerous circles of influence: workplace, center of faith,
neighborhood, club or organization, school, condominium association, etc. Each circle provides a natural arena for the
work of the change agent seeking to create a more sustainable culture. In the broader community, such as the City
of Portland or the State of Oregon, the culture is a composite of the values,
attitudes, and habits of its citizens and its myriad circles of influence. Thus, as an agent of change works within a confined
circle, the agent is also pulling the broader community along the path of
sustainability.
This
6-hour interactive workshop will cover the following topics:
- Theories and strategies for citizen-led cultural change.
- Role, mindset, and general approach of the agent of change.
- Selecting a specific circle of influence for work as a change agent.
-
Understanding Point A – assessing the full potential of the chosen circle of influence and understanding the key elements of its context.
-
A vision for Point B – clarifying either a limited or expanded vision for more sustainable practices within the circle.
-
Developing a plan for work as a change agent in the selected circle of influence with a focus on early implementation steps.
Presenters Jeanne and Dick Roy are co-founders of the Center for Earth Leadership, the Northwest Earth Institute, and the Oregon Natural Step Network. Since 1993, they have worked together as full-time change agents in the Northwest sustainability movement.
